The saved recipe says cups. Your kitchen scale says grams. Choose the ingredient below, then enter the amount. No sign-up needed.
Choose the ingredient first
Decimals and fractions work, including 0.5, 1/2 and 1½. Enter a positive amount up to 1000000, without thousands separators.
All-purpose flour
Reference: 1 US cup = 120 g. Actual weight varies with how the cup is filled. ≈ marks rounding.
Uses King Arthur Baking’s ingredient weights. These are reference equivalents, not a measurement of your ingredients. Follow the recipe’s own gram weights when given.
A quick cup-to-gram reference
These values follow King Arthur Baking’s ingredient chart, checked on 28 September 2026. Butter and cocoa are calculated from its half-cup entries. Weighing is more consistent than filling a cup.
| Ingredient | Grams |
|---|---|
| All-purpose flour | 120 |
| White granulated sugar | 198 |
| Brown sugar, packed | 213 |
| Icing sugar, unsifted | 113 |
| Butter | 226 |
| Unsweetened cocoa powder | 84 |
| Oats, old-fashioned or quick-cooking | 89 |
| White rice flour | 142 |
Keep the creator’s amounts when you have them
A conversion is a reference, not a correction to someone’s recipe. If the creator says “1 cup, 130 g”, keep their 130 g. Pay attention to words such as packed, sifted or chopped, too. They change what fits in a cup.
Making a smaller batch? The recipe scaler changes the servings while leaving your ingredient names and units intact.
Less pausing. More cooking.

FAQ
How many grams are in a cup?
It depends on the ingredient and the cup used. This tool uses US recipe cups and King Arthur Baking’s reference weights: a cup of all-purpose flour is 120 g, while a cup of white granulated sugar is 198 g. Select the ingredient before converting.
Why do other converters show different numbers?
Cup sizes, ingredient brands and how ingredients are packed can differ. This tool follows one linked reference chart. If the creator gives a gram weight, use that instead of replacing it with a generic conversion.
Can I convert grams back to cups?
Yes. Choose Grams to cups, select the ingredient and enter the gram amount. The answer uses the same reference weight in reverse.
What if my ingredient is not listed?
Use the recipe’s own gram amounts or a reference for that exact ingredient. Do not substitute flour, sugar or water as a universal cup weight.
